That’s Refreshing

Sipping a cold glass of lemonade.

Biting into an orange segment.

Licking an ice cream cone.

Tasting a spoonful of raspberry sherbet.

Biting into a slice of peach pie with whipped cream.

Each one of these is refreshing to our mouths, tantalizing our taste buds, especially on a hot summer day.

Refreshing has synonyms like: invigorating, stimulating, exhilarating, reviving, and revitalizing.  Our mouths water at the refreshing. Our souls thirst for refreshment too.

Psalm 42:1-2NRSV says, “As a deer longs for you, for flowing streams, so my soul thirsts for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.”

The Lord promises refreshing for us. He knows the wilderness places in our lives and desires to bring a little paradise into our days. The refreshment He offers is His love at work, His grace, mercy and blessings for us as His children.

Jeremiah 31:25ESV tells us: “For I will satisfy the weary soul, and satisfy the weary, and every languishing soul I will replenish.”

Life can be draining, and exhausting. Our days are hurried, and our calendars overbooked. Our answer to “How are you?” is often “busy” or “overwhelmed.” Wouldn’t it be so much better if we could respond with words like “rested”, “hopeful”, “loved”, or “encouraged”?

Our souls need refreshing on our individual life journeys. We need at least a daily dose of renewed hope. Our hearts get parched in the daily rat race. Recognizing the Lord at work in our lives, seeing His Word come alive in relevance to our circumstances, and hearing the hope He has imparted to others all are faith-building, as well as restorative to our souls. SoulRefreshedJourney will be a blog for you, the reader, to have your heart engaged in soul refreshment and to have opportunity to share the hope you have found in Him as well. We are called to come and drink freely of the Water of Life in Revelation 22:17. Anyone who is thirsty is called. The Amplified Bible explains “thirsty” as being anyone “who is painfully conscious of his need of those things by which the soul is refreshed, supported, and strengthened.”  I know, for myself, that I have need of my soul being refreshed, supported, and strengthened as I daily seek all that the Lord has for me. I pray that you will be blessed and find your soul refreshed as together we look to Him to meet us on our journey through life.
